Terms of use

By using TheBuildingCode you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the site.

Reference only. The site provides free informational tools and content. It is not professional advice — see our Disclaimer. You use results at your own risk and are responsible for verifying compliance with the codes that apply to your work.

No warranty. The site is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any loss or damage arising from use of the site.

Content. Our plain-English summaries, calculators, and text are our own work. Code and standard names belong to their respective publishers; we cite them for reference and do not reproduce copyrighted code text.

Acceptable use. You may use the site for any lawful personal or professional purpose, including in your own work and estimates. You may not scrape, bulk-copy or republish the site's content or tools as your own, attempt to disrupt or overload the service, or use the site to misrepresent calculated results as professional certification.

Accuracy and updates. We work to keep formulas, reference values and code citations current, and each page shows when it was last reviewed. Codes are adopted and amended locally, however, so a value can change in your jurisdiction before it changes here. Verifying a result against the rules in force where you work is always your responsibility.

Advertising. The site is free to use and may display third-party advertising (such as Google AdSense) to fund it. Advertisers do not influence calculator results or guide content. See the Privacy policy for how advertising cookies work and how to opt out of personalization.

Changes. We may update the tools, content, and these terms over time. Continued use of the site after a change means you accept the updated terms; for significant changes we'll note the revision date on this page.

These terms will be finalized with legal review before any monetization is introduced.
