How many sheets of plywood do I need for a floor?

Divide the floor area by the sheet area, add a 10% waste allowance for cuts, then round up. A standard 4 × 8 ft sheet covers 32 sq ft. A 12 × 16 ft room (192 sq ft) needs 192 ÷ 32 = 6 sheets exact, then 6 × 1.10 = 6.6 → 7 sheets.

How much waste allowance do I need for plywood?

10% is standard for a rectangular room with straight cuts. Use 15% if the layout involves diagonal boards, angles, stairways or a lot of notching around obstacles. Very simple straight-run jobs with few cuts can get away with 5%, but ordering too tight risks a costly second delivery trip.
