Privacy policy

Last updated 2026-06

TheBuildingCode is a free set of trade calculators and guides. You don't need an account, and we don't ask for personal information to use the tools. This policy explains what data is involved and the choices you have.

Information we handle

Preferences. We store small cookies for your country and unit choices so the site remembers them. These aren't used for tracking.

Analytics. With your consent, we use privacy-friendly analytics (Google Analytics) to see which tools are useful and improve them. Analytics load only after you accept cookies; decline and they aren't loaded.

Third-party advertising (Google AdSense)

We may display ads served by Google and other third parties. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user's prior visits to this and other websites.

  • Google's use of advertising cookies (including the DoubleClick / DART cookie) enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visits here and elsewhere.
  • You can opt out of personalised advertising via Google's Ads Settings.
  • You can opt out of third-party vendors' cookies at aboutads.info.
  • Where required, advertising and analytics cookies load only after you consent via our cookie banner.

Your privacy choices (GDPR & CCPA)

EEA/UK (GDPR). You have the right to access, correct, delete, or restrict processing of your personal data, and to withdraw consent at any time. We rely on your consent for analytics and advertising cookies.

California (CCPA). We do not sell personal information. California residents may request access to or deletion of personal information and may opt out of any sale/sharing.

Other regions (e.g. Canada's PIPEDA, Australia's Privacy Act) provide similar rights. To exercise any of these, contact us via the contact page.

Children's privacy (COPPA)

TheBuildingCode is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes

We may update this policy as the site evolves. The "last updated" date above reflects the latest revision. Final wording is reviewed with counsel before advertising is enabled.
